The Martian, by Andy Weir

Last year, like many people, I went to the cinema to watch The Martian – the movie with Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig – and really loved it.

Loving Science Ficiton, I was very fortunate to be offered the book for Christmas. I could not read it until now. I read the 360+ pages in as little as four days. The book starts very quickly, is fast-paced all along… The conclusion is perhaps a little bit too hasty. There are few minors differences with the movie.

It feels that it is a first book for Andy Weir : the running gags could be less insistent, the tone could be a bit more adjusted ( I do not see the NASA geniuses do joke this way )… but overall this is very solid, plausible science fiction. I am looking forward to reading the author’s next scifi book.

And for those interested in how the book is scientifically accurate and plausible, here are some articles by Time Magazine and Astronomy.com.

Years after devoring The Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson, it felt great being on Mars.

Grade: 18/20.
